Mission:

Branching Minds is a web-app for teachers and parents to quickly identify students’ cognitive and behavioral strengths, challenges and interests; find appropriate learning supports to overcome those challenges; and then monitor progress along the way.

Vision:

Branching Minds empowers intervention teams and classroom teachers to figure out exactly what the root of a student’s problem is, as well as precisely which support will meet that student’s needs.

Approach:

Branching Minds empowers intervention teams and classroom teachers  to figure out exactly what the root of a student’s learning may be and to provide customized learning approaches and resources.  They power this using an online platform connecting classroom teachers to the latest research on interventions for students. Modeled on RTI and aligned with MTSS, Branching Minds bridges learnings from special education into the general education classroom, allowing thoughtful personalization.

Impact:

Branching Minds is in early stages of developing their impact assessment model, but has already been shown to improve academic performance and teacher confidence in their ability to support struggling learners.  In addition,  their work has reached 150 schools and 65,090 students.

• The data shows that students supported on Branching Minds made gains of 5 percentile points in reading and math over similar students not supported on Branching Minds.
• Supporting students on Branching Minds improves academic performance in reading and mathematics
• Schools are able to implement the Branching Minds program with high levels of teacher engagement for delivering RTI/MTSS
• The use of Branching Minds shows potential to improve teacher confidence in their own ability to support struggling students
