Mission:

The Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence builds the social-emotional intelligence of the students and adults in schools to create a climate conducive to learning, health, and happiness. Yale works with schools to implement the RULER approach, an evidence-based socio-emotional development program.

Vision:

The Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence uses the power of emotions to create a healthier, and more equitable, productive, and compassionate society, today and for future generations by conducting research and designing educational approaches that support people of all ages in developing emotional intelligence and the skills to thrive and contribute to society.

Approach:

  • Scientific research is the foundation of the work at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence.
  • The center uses its pioneering research and partners with field experts to build effective approaches for teaching emotional intelligence. Each approach is rigorously tested and refined for maximum impact.
  • Partnerships with school organizations, large and small, foster the emotional intelligence of all students and adults in that community. This approach leads to measurable improvements in emotional skills, effectiveness, and well-being.
  • By developing each individual’s emotional intelligence, the center transforms organizations, making them happier, healthier, more compassionate, and significantly more effective.

Impact:

In May, 2016 98% of Bridgeport educators had introduced two or more tools associated with RULER, an evidence-based SEL development program, and 72% of educators rated these tools as useful for teaching social-emotional skills.
